Nothing quite beats salmon as a fish choice and especially char grilled and barbecued. These tasty morsels are a great hors d’oeuvre at any time, but especially for a finger food barbecue on a warm summer day or evening.

  • 125g salmon fillet, cut into 2½cm cubes
  • ¼ tsp wholegrain mustard
  • ½ tsp fresh lemon thyme or ordinary thyme, chopped
  • 1/8 tsp ground cumin
  • ½ tsp lemon juice
  • ½ tsp honey


  1. Preheat a barbecue or char grill pan to medium heat.
  2. Place the mustard, thyme, cumin, lemon juice and honey in a bowl and mix to combine.
  3. Marinate the salmon cubes in the mixture for 30 minutes.
  4. Soak 2 wooden skewers in water while the salmon is marinating.
  5. Lightly oil the skewers then thread the salmon cubes onto them.
  6. Cook on the barbecue for 2-3 minutes each side or until the salmon is just cooked.
